The Mission R Concept: Porsche’s First Race Car EV
Porsche’s EV range just received a speedy boost via the brand’s first electric race car. Is it as impressive as other Porsche vehicles? All signs point to yes.

The IAA Mobility conference in Munich has given us a lot to talk/think about — including a brand new race car concept from Porsche known as ‘Mission R.’
The Mission R is powered by new generation electric motors, sporting 1,073 horsepower (800 kilowatts) and all-wheel drive.
It’s impressive as it is slick, capable of going from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds tops, according to the Stuggart-based automaker. Speed-wise, the Mission R can move at speeds of up to 186mph.
What’s more impressive is the fact that, with 900-volt charging, the Mission R can go from 5% to 80% in charge, taking around 15 minutes.
Needless to say, but put this concept race car on any track and it will compete with the best of them.
“Porsche is the brand for people who fulfil their dreams. This is also true in motorsports. We experience our innovative strength on the race track, demonstrate courage in pursuing new avenues and delight car owners with sporting performance,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
We should also mention the “new ways for fans and driver to interact” with the Mission R.
Multiple onboard cameras provide an interactive second-screen experience. There are cameras on the driver’s helmet, one on the A-pillar and one on the dashboard for heightened immersion.
There’s also a dedicated ‘Livestream Button,’ again, blurring the lines between video game and reality.

The introduction of the Mission R aligns perfectly with Porsche’s dedication to company-wide electrification efforts.
It started with the Taycan in 2019, and now the Mission R is grabbing the baton.
“In addition to our involvement in the Formula E World Championship, we are now taking the next big step forward in electric mobility. The concept study is our vision of all-electric customer motorsports. The Mission R embodies everything that makes Porsche strong: performance, design and sustainability.”
— Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG
There are no guarantees that this electric race car comes to fruition, by the way. Still, Porsche wouldn’t give it this much of a rub if it had no desire of bringing it to life.
The Mission R could be a real disruptor in the ever-expanding world of electric racing if made. But what do you make of it? Leave a comment down below. We want your thoughts.
