Calls to an electric overhaul of emergency service vehicles has led us to this point — to the introduction of the Mustang Mach-E police car.

Ford revealed the prototype at the Emergency Services Show in Birmingham, much to the excitement of police forces up and down the UK.

According to the automaker, seven UK forces have either tested the vehicle directly, or have inquired about it, meaning it could be coming to a neighbourhood near you very soon.

The Metropolitan Police Force, in particular, has already “appraised the standard Mustang Mach-E and has now requested a full evaluation of the marked concept.”

Also on the waiting list are forces in Sussex, Surrey, South Wales, Dyfed Powys, Devon & Cornwall and Police Scotland.

The concept shown is the standard range version of the popular electric SUV (with all-wheel drive). Ford plans to offer the Extended Range version to the police (rear-wheel drive), thus giving officers a lot better range when out in the field.

“The vehicle range is uncompromised as the blue light equipment is drawn from the vehicle’s 12V battery and not the drive battery,” said Terry Adams, Blue Light direct sales manager at Ford of Britain and Ireland.

“In future developments we will look to increase this battery capacity to allow for additional equipment to be fitted.”

Catching bad guys should be no problem for the Mach-E, considering it can go from 0-62mh in 3.7 seconds tops.

Visually, this prototype EV wears the blue and yellow well, complete with the notorious green license plate (the hallmark of eco-friendly types in the UK).

We couldn’t think of a better EV to enter the line of duty.

That being said, Tesla has crafted an electric police car in the past.

Which police car do you think is better? The Mach-E? Or Tesla’s Model 3 police car? Give us your answer in the comments down below.
