Sony And Honda Are Planning To Make EVs Together
Two big players are coming together to explore a ‘forming strategy alliance’ that aims to create a new era of mobility and mobility services. This includes collaborating on a new electric vehicle company.

Today, Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd, announced that they plan to form a new company to design and sell electric vehicles together, as part of a strategy alliance.
The new company has no name as of yet. All that we know is that the first EV model is expected to launch in 2025. Design, development and sales will be handled by the unknown company, only there’s no plans of owning/operating manufacturing facilities.
“Sony’s Purpose is to ‘fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology.’” Said Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman, President and CEO of Sony Corporation Group.
“…we intend to build on our vision to ‘make the mobility space an emotional one,’ and contribute to the evolution of mobility centred around safety, entertainment and adaptability.”
Honda will handle the manufacturing of the first vehicle, with Sony set to develop a mobility service platform. This partnership is sure to create buzz, given Honda’s expertise in vehicles, and Sony’s approach to entertainment.

Sony, has been wanting to enter the automotive world for a while now, only this marks an actual move into the space. The Vision-S, an electric concept car was shown at CES 2020.
Around the same time, Sony announced plans to operate a company called Sony Mobility by the spring of 2022. This Honda announcement suggests that Sony Mobility isn’t happening, although no formal announcement has been made just yet.
