Today, Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd, announced that they plan to form a new company to design and sell electric vehicles together, as part of a strategy alliance.

The new company has no name as of yet. All that we know is that the first EV model is expected to launch in 2025. Design, development and sales will be handled by the unknown company, only there’s no plans of owning/operating manufacturing facilities.

“Sony’s Purpose is to ‘fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology.’” Said Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman, President and CEO of Sony Corporation Group.

“…we intend to build on our vision to ‘make the mobility space an emotional one,’ and contribute to the evolution of mobility centred around safety, entertainment and adaptability.”

Honda will handle the manufacturing of the first vehicle, with Sony set to develop a mobility service platform. This partnership is sure to create buzz, given Honda’s expertise in vehicles, and Sony’s approach to entertainment.

“The New Company will aim to stand at the forefront of innovation, evolution, and expansion of mobility around the world, by taking a broad and ambitious approach to creating value that exceeds the expectations and imagination of customers. We will do so by leveraging Honda’s cutting-edge technology and know-how in relation to the environment and safety, while aligning the technological assets of both companies.”
