NIO And XPeng Hit Record Deliveries For June

Both known for premium EVs, these Chinese automakers continue to ride a wave of positive momentum as we delve deeper into 2021.

  • NIO delivered 8,083 vehicles in June 2021, setting a new monthly record for the car brand.
  • Cumulatively, NIO has delivered around 41,956 electric cars this year.
  • XPeng delivered 6,565 vehicles in June 2021, a 617% increase year-over-year.
  • The P7 continues to rise in popularity amongst tech-savvy consumers.

In China, native EV companies, specifically NIO and XPeng, lead the pack. And so they should, with both announcing record deliveries for June alongside other achievements.

NIO, a known rival to American automaker Tesla, delivered 8,083 vehicles last month, setting a new record for the brand (a 116% increase year-over-year).

Here we’ve broken the sales down by model:

  • ES6 (5-seat SUV): 3,755
  • EC6 (coupe): 2,830
  • ES8 (6/7-seat SUV): 1,498

Cumulatively, NIO has delivered a total of 41,956 electric cars this year.

NIO could deliver more than 10,000 units a month at the current rate of growth, putting them in a prime position ahead of an anticipated launch in Europe.

Chinese competitor XPeng has also earned some delivery-related achievements.

In June alone, XPeng delivered 6,565 vehicles which is a 617% increase year-over-year, and a 15% increase from the previous month.

June deliveries consisted of 4,730 P7s, the company’s sports smart sedan, and 1,835 G3s, its smart compact SUV.

As of June 30, 2021, year-to-date total deliveries reached 30,738 units, representing a 459% increase year-over-year.

The P7 continues to generate interest amongst tech-savvy consumers thanks to its Navigation Guided Pilot systems. Since mid-2020, 34,588 P7s have been delivered.

XPeng’s current plan is to deliver its G3i SUV later in September, that EV coupled with the P5 smart friendly sedan (fourth quarter 2021 release) could continue the automaker’s hot streak.

According to XPeng, the P5 will be “the world’s first mass-produced Smart EV equipped with auto-grade LiDAR technology.”

BYD are another Chinese company setting records after they tripled plug-in sales for the month of May.

This is fantastic news for China’s leading EV companies following setbacks caused by the pandemic. If you had to choose, which electric car would you choose between the P7 and the ES6? Tell us on social media.
