Premium automaker, Genesis, has unveiled the GV60, its first dedicated electric platform-based EV.

It will be the brand’s second electric vehicle to enter the European market, following the electric version of its G80 saloon.

The EV will take advantage of Hyundai’s unique E-GMP architecture. Hyundai fans will recognise the name since it’s also used by the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.

Its platform features 800V architecture, meaning it can host single or dual-motor powertrains. Moreover, ultra-fast charging (350kW) is also permitted.

“When we launched in Europe, we committed to bringing three electric cars to the region within our first year; we are proud to confirm the GV60 will be our second electric car for Europe, following soon after the launch of the electrified G80,” said Dominique Boesch, Managing Director for Genesis Motor Europe.

Genesis is clearly looking to infiltrate the premium market in the grandest way possible here. And it could do so with ease given what we now know/can see.

This EV is built different, sporting an SUV-coupé-style side profile complete with a chrome line flowing from the windscreen to the top of the Daylight Opening (DLO) window.

Digital side mirrors are another great touch, which only adds to its forward-thinking image.

There’s also a new wing emblem situated on the grille. Speaking of, Genesis says it has emanated a unique “Guilloché pattern often seen in luxury watches” with the GV60’s grille.

Inside the vehicle is a highlight reel in and of itself, adding a blue hue to optimised features/details.

The most noticeable being the Crystal Sphere, a sphere-shaped electronic transmission control that intuitively informs the driver of oncoming driving conditions.

It’s spacious despite being packed with features, in line with Genesis’ ethos of the ‘Beauty of White Space.’

Both inside and out, it all screams luxury.

“The GV60, Genesis’ first on a dedicated electric platform, will provide a totally new experience as a luxury electric vehicle based on our unique brand identity and will also benefit from our unique customer focused offering where service come before sales.”
— Dominique Boesch, Managing Director for Genesis Motor Europe

According to Genesis, the name stands for the following:

  • G: Genesis
  • V: Versatility
  • 60: Denotes the position in its lineup

Put it all together, and you have an EV that could compete with other premium crossovers currently in, and soon to enter, the market.

Genesis plans to launch three EVs in the next year within Europe. The automaker plans to reveal more pricing details/tech info at a later date.
