Archer Aviation Reveals Stunning New Electric Air Taxi

The electric aviation startup unveiled a 12-rotor aircraft at a recent event in Los Angeles to much praise.
- Archer Aviation calls this aircraft ‘Maker.’
- Maker is to be used as a “certification test bed” for demonstrations and to push key technologies.
- Maker is known as an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL).
Archer Aviation recently revealed a new electric aircraft to the world at an event in Los Angeles.
A sleek two-seater craft that looks very promising (not to mention futuristic like most EV concepts looking to fly high).
Meet what Archer Aviation is calling ‘Maker,’ a 12-rotor aircraft capable of travelling 60 miles at a time thanks to a 75kWh battery. In terms of speed, the Maker can travel up to 150mph and is “100x quieter than a helicopter,” according to Archer.
So, what is it used for? Because it won’t be replacing any major airliners anytime soon.
Maker’s purpose is “to serve as a certification test bed, and also to keep pushing our [Archer Aviation’s] key enabling technologies,” says one of Archer’s co-founders, Adam Goldstein.
We don’t know when Archer plans to test the Maker. All we know is they’re eyeing a 2024 launch for a five-seater version.
You might have already guessed it, but yes, Maker falls into the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) category. In other words, tilt rotors allow it to act like a helicopter, only with wings and landing wheels.
Aircraft like the Maker is the closest we’ll get to flying cars.
Countless startups/established aviation companies are working on eVTOL aircraft — most with commercial opportunities in mind.
Last week, Virgin Atlantic announced plans to establish a network of similar craft in the UK. And, private lease company Blade is looking to roll out a fleet of their own in the next few years.
